Fiddle Performance Classes with Fergal Scahill
Athenry Music School is delighted to have Fergal Scahill joining us on faculty.
Multi-instrumentalist Fergal Scahill is one of the most renowned fiddlers in Irish music today. He is most well know as the fiddler in award winning band We Banjo 3. Fergal’s career has spanned over 20 years, performing thousands of shows in over 30 countries.
Fiddlers need to be highly motivated and fluent players.
STRUCTURE of Lessons
1. Monday evenings during term time starting Monday 7th October
2. 45 mins group classes (4.30-9pm)
3. Group lessons (Maximum 4 in each group)
4. Term of 10 lessons (€200 per student)

Youth Samba Drumming
Want to bang some drums with us?
Athenry Music School in association with Galway Music Generation, invites you to DrumÓg, a community samba experience for teenagers in secondary school. No musical experience is needed
Where/When will rehearsals be?
Wednesdays: 6-7pm starting on the 4th September at Clarin College, Athenry
Who is DrumÓg for?
It’s for anyone in secondary school who wants to have fun, try something new, experience playing percussion in a group and meet new people!
You are welcome to come along to try it out and join rehearsals as often as you like.
How much does it cost?
To cover tutor costs, we request €50 per child per term.

Are instruments provided?
Yes, we have plenty of instruments to go around!
Connecting young people in our community and playing samba together is at the heart of DumÓg! We need your help to get this project going. Please come along to try out something new and support DrumÓg by spreading the word.
Creative Music Workshops
Learn about songwriting, composition, improvisation and jamming in an inclusive environment.
Daire is a tutor on national and international workshops, he is founder of Dark Room Orchestra and ReGroovantion, and works with orchestra and independent artists on an International scale.
There are three categories for these workshops. Each will run over two days with a total of 4 hours.
-Category 1: (9-12) Tues 10th Wed 11th, 4pm-8pm
-Category 2: (13-18) Wed 11h Fri 13th, 7pm-9pm
-Category 3: (Adults) Tues 10th Thurs 12th, 7pm-9pm
Each workshop will be tailored for the group that applies. Please let me know your interests below

Have you ever wanted to try conducting? Here is your chance!
The Reach for the Baton scheme has been developed to give musicians of ages 14 – 101 (grade 5 and above) the chance to develop their basic conducting skills, and to try those skills out with live musicians in a supportive and collegial atmosphere. During your Sandbox conducting session, guided by Galway conductor Sinead Hayes, you will have a 90 minute group conducting lesson, followed by a session with string quartet.
To participate, read the information pack linked below, fill in the simple form and send us a short video (1 – 2 minutes recorded on your phone) of yourself either playing your instrument or conducting along to a piece of your choice.
Get your application in by Monday 19th December at 6pm and we will be in touch by December 23rd to let you know whether you have a participant or observer place in the workshop.
We can’t wait to help you start your journey of discovery into the wonderful world of conducting!
